Lauren and Ben at the Alamo

Visitors, 4th of July, and Meghan's New Doo

Our good friends from grad school - Lauren and Ben, came out to visit us in June, but I've been too lame to put these up. So finally, they're here.
We had a great time with them, catching up on things that have gon on over the last year. Lauren in finishing her internship in Clinical Psychology in Milwaukee, WI, while her boyfriend Ben just got a new job teaching in a high school in VA. After her internship, she'll be moving back to the D.C. area. She's job hunting as we speak...

Our 4th of July was rather uneventful. Some fireworks were launched from Sea World around 9:30 at night We watched from the back bedroom window of our house. The real shocker for the month of July is Meghan's new haircut. This is the 2nd new doo she's had in the last 2 months. The first is viewable in last months posting of our internship graduation day. That was the shortest she had cut her hair since 7th grade---arguablly her better years anyway:) So this is EVEN shorter! I think it looks great curly, although she incessantly insists it makes her look like a child, or a jungle woman. Either way, I think kids AND jungle women are cute as hell!

Clancy "The Reluctant Patient"

Clancy's surgery last week went very well, or so the vet said. She has finished her medication regimen of anti-inflammatory, pain, and antibiotic medicines. She hated this little cocktail which we gave her every 8 hours for the last week. But she's doing well despite the initial stand she took to us keeping her calm and confined - she ripped out 3 of her staples! We had to take her back to the vet to get them put in. And with the 3 new staples she was given a free gift - see picture below. She was unhappy with her free gift as you can see in the picture. This was taken right after we put it on her. Now, Clancy must somehow biologically related to her mom and dad, because she is stubborn, fiesty, and determined. When she says she doesn't want us putting an Elizabethan Collar on her (AKA-retard cone), she means it! So we replaced the 1st E-Cone and the 3 carpets she chewed up (because we were keeping her in our bathroom so she had more room to maneuver than she does in her crate while wearing that cone. Now we're fighting back: she's got another E-Cone and she stays in her crate -- not the bathroom. She's adjusted nicely so far. This Thursday she gets her staples removed. She's hobbling around and trying to use the leg. We're just thrilled the operation went well and that she'll be able to play like a normal, healthy puppy within a few months!

No News is Good News

We have not written in a while b/c frankly there's not a heck of alot going on here. We are finishing off a nice 4 day weekend and preparing for a sweet 3-day week. After this week we have 5 more weeks left in our residency, and 6 weeks left in TexASS. Woo HOO! We are so excited to get to FL and start our first REAL jobs as fully credentialled Air Force Psychologists. After speaking to our boss over email, he is also very excited for us to arrive in FL. He has been swamped as one of two providers for the entire clinic! Our arrival will provide him a much-needed break, while giving us a fresh and exciting start to our careers as psychologists.

It's such a comforting feeling to know that we have guaranteed job security. It is a luxury that our peers in civillian internship programs do not get to enjoy the way we do. So there's little anxiety about what comes after graduate school, and simply lots of excitement and anticipation.

Meghan continues to resist the course of action I've been suggesting for the last 3 weeks. I suggested we begin to break down this house by removing pictures from the walls, filling in holes, wiping the walls and doors of marks, painting any rouch or damaged spots. Canyou imagine why she is resistant to this idea given that we are only here for 6 more weeks?!!! I don't get it, but evidently, that doesn't matter. Andddddddd that's what marriage is apparently all about :)

Clancy is getting her surgery for her torn ACL this Thursday at 8:00 am. We are a bit nervous, but very glad that she will finally get this taken care of. We hate to have to restrict her activity level so much. It's hard for a puppy...and for her parents!

I'm going out to FL the last week of July/1st week of August to close on the house. Meghan and I decided that one of us should be home with Clancy while she continues her recovery. Meghan volunteered - what a champ and team player. So I'm very excited about that. I'll be driving so that we can save some $. I'll also be able to take a few items out there that we would otherwise transport in our cars when we drive out there. So that'll free up some more room for the stuff we take in August. We should be driving out there for good on 17 or 18 Aug. We are a bit concerned about the inspection, b/c it was returned with some things that must be fixed in order for us to get a CO...like a leak in the roof b/c the builder did not put the proper coverings on part of the roof (like the flashing that's missing).

Well, I'll write again soon. We'll let you all know how Clancy's surgery went. I'll also post some pics of Meg's newest haircut - when it was curly! She thinks she looks like a wild woman. I think she looks adorable.
