Oh Sweet Life

So last week I was driving home and thinking to myself does life get any better????

I wake up in the morning put on a uniform for the United States Air Force. This has and continues to be an adjustment. However, a positive one. It takes awhile for the reality to sink in, that I am in the military serving our country. After putting on my uniform I drive into work at the largest AF hospital in the world. This top rated training hospital is where I am surrounded by some of the most brilliant psychologists in the field and I get to train under them. After I have seen some patients and learned a bit (sometimes too much) I head off to the gym during work hours. Why? Because we are given 3 hours of work time to work out during the week. I am thinking I should be in shape in no time! Then to end this typical day, I go home to my soulmate. Cheesy I realize but oh so true.

Really I am sometimes taken back by life. Work is hard but so worth it in the end. I am learning so much and continuing to develop as a psychologist and a military psychologist at that. I should also mention that I am confined to my glasses for the next month in preparation for laser eye surgery, which I might add is free. Wish me luck!

I just wanted to share how excited I am about mine and Kent's journey. I am sure that the typical day will not always go so smoothly and that life will not always look so wonderful. BUT shoot for now I will enjoy the present :-)

I hope all is well with everyone. Kent will update you shortly and also share some scary pictures of the awful spiders I continue to complain about. You will also be frightened.

Goodnight for now. Love to you all!!

First Days of Work

Hey everyone! Kent and I have completed the inprocessing at Lackland AFB or at least we hope. Kent has started his mini rotation in primary care consultation while I have begun my major rotation in Clinical Health Psychology at the hospital. I managed to get an office with a window. I cannot wait to decorate (I know what a doors). I have never had an office of my own.

The other residents are great. We elected a Chief resident and Kent and I self elected ourselves the social officers of the group. Not a bad job huh? I have got so many things on the list of to dos for the group including vineyard hopping, white water rafting, water parks, Sea World, Ghost Hunts and more :-) I hope everyone is ready for me.

Okay now lets discuss the spider situation.... Friday morning Kent and I were leaving for work when the "encounter occurred." He opened the door when I spotted the monster. I quickly slammed the door and screamed. Kent insisted on opening the door again. AT which point the DAMN monster ran in the house after us. Kent had to stomp on him while I continued to scream bloody murder. He was the size of a silver dollar with hairy legs. I quickly researched this spider as I feared it was the Brown Recluse. Not to worry it was not! I don't know how I will live a year with these monsters lurking outside.

I guess that is it for now. I hope all is well with everyone. I just wanted to remind everyone there is an open invitation to come visit! We hope some of you will come see us out here in TX.

Texas Weather

It is REALLY hot here, as anyone can imagine. Although we are in drought season, there were a few sprinkles tonight. Between those sprinkles, there was tons of thunder and heat lightning. I really haven't seen lightning like this - except in Olean, NY when I was about 9 years old. ANyway, here a a few amateur pics taken from our back window in an upstairs guest bedroom.

BTW, our orientation (last week and this week) is going very well. We have become very skilled at sleeping with our eyes open through some helpful, and some not so helpful briefings. Next Monday we start our first rotations. We'll post an update once those rotations have been approved by the head of our program. We're both very eager to start seeing patients in the hospital.

First Day at Work

Today was our first day at work. It was crazy! We have this checklist of personnel members to visit (at their offices). Each one has to initial that we saw them. Most offices fill out some paperwork for us. They call it "In-processing." I think it's really an experiment to torture us. I mean, we were like rats running around a maze throughout the hospital!

Actually, it was funny. We have a great group of fellow residents. We enjoyed the adventure of getting lost on the basement level of the hospital, misleading one another, and waiting on line together for the various personnel.

These next 2 weeks are an orientation period so things should be rather mellow.

Aside from work, we've had quite a bout with bugs around here! Since our house is brand new, the insects that were displaced while it was being built are trying to reclaim their lands! We've found several ants, spiders, and other creepy crawlees around. So our exterminator is on the way over. Meghan is really on edge about it - she searches the bed before getting in it each night. It's really funny to see her squirm just for 2 seconds, before joining her in the reconnaisance(sp?) mission to rid our house of bugs.

We are hosting a bar-b-q this weekend with the other residents (and their families) at our house. I will try to take some pictures and post them.
